After class I said farewell to the normal sit around and talk some more guys, wishing them well and I headed for the range. To get some more time with my new rifle, particularly check the zero with ten rounds, shoot thirteen in a Red Coat target and another forty within the time and position constraints of a regular AQT. While looking at what others are shooting, how well they are shooting and talking about anything Appleseed since I had a trifold or two and some spare Red Coats to share.

So I didn't clean the Red Coat, make all hits count, but I was close. I only got 190 points on the AQT, mostly because of three non-counting flyers, and then poor time use and NPOA verification on stage four, should have checked it twice. I am so good at giving advice that I don't follow, for no good reason. Sigh.
Still it was a beautiful day, which finished with me watching Name of the Rose on video. Sad movie and story, very well done.
Very good movie.
ReplyDeleteEarl - Took my new LTR to the range Friday first time. Pre-zeroed with laser bore sighter @25 yds and was off by only 1 inch @5:00. Scrounged together 4 brands of ammo, all copper plated. No redcoats but printed off 1-inch bulls, 5 per sheet. Dialed in then shot five 5-shot groups per brand. Several holes-in-one and a few 4-in-one holes with a flyer, likely the cold bore shot, from bench rest. CCI Mini-mags best closely followed by CCI AR Tactical, Win M22 and Super-X HS. No jams, stovepipes or FTFs. Very happy with the LTR.
ReplyDeleteIt gets better every time I go out, cleaning the rifle tonight. You must have lots of ammunition choices. Lucky you.
DeleteSportsman's, Wednesday, 9am. Two per until gone. Unverified second-hand info.
DeleteStill, trigger time will help bring that in, and getting more comfortable with the new rifle....
ReplyDeleteI am sure trigger time will help, it already has, and I will never shoot as much on this rifle as a regular Appleseed would in two days, I am just looking at sixty three rounds per test.
DeleteFrankly, having read the book (yes, I made it through all of that book), and having seen the movie: I liked the book better. The movie put some things out too soon for my tastes, but then I read the book first.
